Home invasion victim tells of scary ordeal

MIAMI COUNTY —

A woman in Miami County said she has had nightmares ever since a gunman invaded her home.

Miami County sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Bobb said detectives have few leads in the home invasion that occurred the night of Dec. 8 at a home in the 9000 block of Ohio 202.

The house was lit up with Christmas decorations and vehicles were parked in the driveway. Bobb said it’s unusual for a criminal to target such a house.

The victim, Phyllis Uzzel, told News Center 7’s Kate Bartley that she was at home while her husband, Darrell, was in the garage.

She said when she answered a knock at the door, a man pushed through and held a gun to her head.

“I thought that he was actually going to kill me,” the woman said. “And that (when my husband) came back from the garage, he’d find me lying on the floor.”

The suspect demanded money, grabbed the victim’s purse and fled, police said.

The purse had thousands of dollars in it —money that had been set aside for Christmas and the house payment, according to Mrs. Uzzel.

The suspect was seen leaving in a white van with black bumpers.
