Hundreds Mourn Couple Swept Away In River

Hundreds gather to remember a local couple killed in a Christmas Day tragedy.

Five hundred people attended a New Year's Eve memorial service at the largest church in Brookville.

Brookville is the hometown of Craig and Patricia Wenner, who disappeared in the fast moving current of the Stillwater River while trying to retrieve their dog.

The couple's two teenaged daughters watched helplessly from shore while the surf swallowed up their parents and pet. And it's for the two girls that most here are concerned about. "It's a time where as a Christian you turn to Christ. That's the only thing you can do," said neighbor Barry Zicklefoose.

The five day recovery effort is being scaled back; only the dog's body has been found. Meantime, at the Wenner's home, a lone Christmas wreath on the front door celebrates what should have been a joyous time.
