PIQUA, Ohio —
Authorities said an "iconic" hearse that was manufactured in Piqua went up for auction on Thursday in Arizona.
The 1964 Cadillac hearse was used to transport the body of John F. Kennedy and his wife after he was shot and killed from a Dallas hospital to an airport, where it was loaded onto Air Force One.
Kennedy was shot and killed in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.
The hearse was manufactured by Miller-Meteor, which was based in Piqua. The vehicle was sold at an auction for $176,000 to a Boulder, Co., car collector and real estate dealer.
Miller-Meteor began manufacturing hearses and ambulances in 1913 and remained a vital business in Piqua into the mid-1970s.
