MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio —

Authorities said a police officer risked his own life to save a man found at the bottom of a pool.

The incident happened at the Barkley Square Condominiums.

Neighbors said the man was found only with his swimming trunks on, and police wrapped him in a towel before administrating CPR.

Medics rushed the man to Kettering Medical Center for treatment.

Officer Matt Nicely performed the rescue attempt. Sgt. Jay Pharris of the Miami Twp. Police Department said Nicely is trained to handle these types of response situations, and without thinking twice, he jumped in the pool.

Authorities said the man who was found at the bottom of the pool was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The coroners office and detectives from Miami Township are still investigating and trying to determine what led to the man being at the bottom of the pool.
