Incumbents Top Challengers In Fundraising

Boehner Leads All Candidates

DAYTON, Ohio —

Newly filed campaign finance reports from Miami Valley congressional candidates showed Thursday incumbents raising far more money than challengers.

The leader in all fundraising reported to the Federal Elections Commission comes as no surprise.

House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-West Chester, reported raising $1,482,430 in this election cycle.

Boehner represents Ohio’s 8th District, including Mercer, Darke, Miami, Preble and portions of Montgomery County.

More than half of Boehner’s contributions came from political action committees and the rest from individuals.

As of Thursday, Boehner’s Democratic challenger, Nicholas Von Stein, had not filed a report with the FEC.

Urbana Republican Rep. James Jordan came in second in fundraising with $496,792.

Jordan represents the 4th Congressional District, which includes the far northern part of the Miami Valley.

Republican Rep. Mike Turner raised $477,860. He represents Montgomery, Warren, Clinton and Highland counties.

Democratic challenger Charles Sanders reported raising $3,262.

The Miami Valley’s only congressional race with an open seat has generated the largest number of candidates but not the most money.

Six Democrats and four Republicans are on the March 4 primary ballot in an effort to replace outgoing Rep. David Hobson, R-Springfield.

Republican Steve Austria, who currently serves in the State Senate, leads all candidates in the 7th Congressional District with $353,822.

Fellow Republican Ron Hood, a former state representative, reported raising $26,400.

Among the Democrats, David Woolever led with $9,225. William Conner reported raising $6,070.

The 7th Congressional District includes Greene, Clark, Fayette, Pickaway, Fairfield and Perry counties.

The presidential candidates have raised a total of $4,319,911 in Ohio.

Republican Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney came in first among all candidates with $1,102,577.

Democrat Barack Obama came in second with $701,760.
