COLUMBUS —
A former state agency administrator charged with theft and forgery has turned himself in to authorities in Columbus.
Douglas A. Carter, 46, of Gahanna, is being held in the Franklin County Jail following his indictment on multiple felony charges of aggravated theft, theft in office, forgery, tampering with government records and money laundering.
Carter was fired in April 2012 as the business administrator for the Montgomery Developmental Center in Huber Heights, where he was in charge of managing social security and disability benefits for about 100 patients from a seven-county region. From August 2009 to March 2012, Carter allegedly stole approximately $429,000 of the patients’ monies and used it to buy personal items, like vehicles, jewelry, vacation and cosmetic surgery, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
Carter’s supervisor, Robert Dix, was also terminated from the Developmental Center in April 2012, but he has not been charged with any crime.
Carter is expected to be brought to Dayton later this week for court proceedings.
