Katrina Prompts Gas Prices To Soar Above $3

DAYTON, Ohio —

Remnants of Hurricane Katrina brought much-needed rain to the Miami Valley. Now, residents across the region are dealing with a new kind of drought.

Gas pumps around the Miami Valley are drying up, and places that still have gas to sell are charging as much as $3.09 a gallon.

With the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast, gas prices in the Miami Valley and around the country are beginning to soar above $3 a gallon.

On Wednesday morning, the BP station located at Wilmington and Smithville was packed with motorists buying gas for $2.48 a gallon. They have tried to keep their prices low.

Officials at the station said they have run out of regular and plus grades of gas and only have super left. They said they are very close to running out and once that happens they will be forced shut down the gas operation until a new supply arrives.

In other parts of the Miami Valley gas was readily available, but motorists were forced to pay as much as $3.09 a gallon.

Despite the soaring gas prices, motorists seemed to be upbeat considering what some folks have gone through in the South.
