KETTERING —

A water main line broke for the second time in as many nights on Wilmington Pike.

Early Wednesday evening, a portion of Wilmington Pike near East Stroop Road and Roslyn Avenue was closed after water started gushing onto the roadway from an apparent water main break.

This is the second break in as many nights. Crews fixed a break that happened Tuesday night in the same area and the road was reopened about midday Wednesday.

The first break impacted about 100 customers, including eight businesses and two apartment buildings. Those locations didn’t have water service because a 10-inch water main line froze and broke, according to Brianna Wooten, spokeswoman for Montgomery County Environmental Services.

Wooten said Wednesday night that the same 10-inch pipe burst, this time about 40 yards farther down near Roslyn Avenue.

The break means about 150 locations do not have water, a different set of customers than those impacted Tuesday night, Wooten said.

Wooten said her office has been seeing about five main breaks a day. She said this same pipe breaks at least once every winter.

At 6 a.m. crews were wrapping up the repair working and preparing to fill the hole.
