"Let me win, but if I cannot win. let me be brave in the attempt", repeated the standing room only crowd in the gym at Sidney Middle School Saturday afternoon. That's the creed of the Special Olympics. The pledge was led by Calvin Cooley of Sidney from his wheelchair.

Over 150 consumers of the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities participated in the 7 events. They included bowling, bean bag toss, kickball, softball throw, 25 meter wheelchair race, 50 meterdash/walk, and kickball with a ramp.

First, second and third place medals were presented to the winners.  Presenting the awards were Sidney Fire Chief  Bradley Jones, Sidney Police Chief Kevin Gessler, and Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart.

The Olympic Parade around the gym of  athletes and chaperones was led by the Honor Guard from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.

The National Anthem was sung by Nikole Hoover and Special Olympic athlete Dean Jones.

The event chairman was Mark Harrod, with dozens of other volunteers helping during the games.
