XENIA, Ohio —

Vice President Dick Cheney was in Xenia Tuesday as part of a bus tour through several southern Ohio counties. Cheney spoke to around 2,000 Republican supporters inside a livestock building at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

Cheney and President George W. Bush have been campaigning hard for the last several months trying to persuade undecided voters that the Republican should maintain control of the Oval Office.

With only 14 days left until Election Day, Republican and Democratic presidential candidates have been pounding the pavement frequently in Ohio, which is considered a battleground state.

Republicans said they consider Greene County critical to Bush’s re-election to the White House. The county has always been predominately Republican. However, the Democratic presidential campaign wants to change that.

In his speech at the fairgrounds, Cheney emphasized the fact that Sen. John Kerry attacked the Patriot Act and the No Child Left Behind Act.

The vice president shifted his focus to the war on terror in Iraq. He said he and the president know it is their job to defend America.

Earlier in the day, Cheney started his bus trip in Carroll, where he told voters that he is concerned about the threat of terrorists bombing U.S. cities with nuclear or other weapons.

He also said while Kerry may be trying to convince voters that he’d be a “tough, aggressive” leader, there is not any evidence to support it.

Cheney and his wife, Lynne, are expected to appear at a town hall meeting Tuesday night at a well-known restaurant near Cincinnati.
