GOP Challenger Has Slim Lead In Ohio Governor Race

COLUMBUS, Ohio —

The latest poll by The Columbus Dispatch puts Republican John Kasich with a slim lead over Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland in the final days leading up to the Nov. 2 election.

The Dispatch reports Sunday that Kasich's 49-47 lead is less than the poll's margin of error of 2.3 percentage points.

Earlier polls showed Strickland trailing Kasich by double digits.

In the race for Ohio's open U.S. Senate seat, the newspaper's poll shows GOP candidate Rob Portman with a 16-point lead over Democrat Lee Fisher.

The Dispatch mail poll was conducted from Oct. 20 through Oct. 29. It was based on returns from 1,445 likely Ohio voters.
