Sen. DeWine Next Supreme Court Justice?

WASHINGTON, D.C. —

The Senate minority leader suggests that Ohio U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine would be a possible replacement should Chief Justice William Rehnquist retire.

Sean Rushton said, “Rehnquist’s replacement should be someone of his caliber. Somebody of great intellectual achievement, somebody with a strong record.”

DeWine was quick to rule out the possibility. In a written statement, a spokesman with DeWine said he is running for re-election and has no interest in the U.S. Supreme Court.

As for Rehnquist, he has made no announcements about his future plans.
