Any Ohioan who wants to vote in the Nov. 6 election must be registered by 9 p.m. today, according to state law.

Today also is the last day of “Golden Week,” when people can register to vote and cast a ballot all in one trip to their board of elections office.

All county boards of election are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today.

Those who only plan to register to vote today just need to fill out and sign the form. Those who plan to register and vote at the same time need either their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security Number, according to elections officials.

In either case, the board of elections will mail an acknowledgment card to the newly registered voter to confirm they are registered at their true address.

Tuesday is also an important day for voters who are already registered but have moved since they last voted. Such voters must update their address by 9 p.m. today, or they will have to vote by provisional ballot on Election Day.

Voters can check whether they are registered and whether their address is correct by calling their county board of elections or visiting its website.

The Nov. 6 election spotlight is on the presidential race. But Ohioans also will choose a U.S. senator and U.S. congressmen, state legislators, state Supreme Court justices and county officials such as commissioners, sheriffs and judges. They’ll also vote on a statewide issue concerning how political districts are drawn, and will consider numerous local tax levies and charter issues.
