Turner to co-chair Air Force Caucus in Congress

By Barrie Barber

Staff Writer

U.S. Rep. Mike Turner will serve as one of three co-chairmen of the Congressional Air Force Caucus, according to his office.

Reps. Mike McIntyre, D-N.C., and Sam Johnson, R-Texas, will join Turner, R-Dayton, in that role. This marks the first time Turner has served as a co-chairman within the caucus. He joined the caucus after his first election to the House of Representatives a decade ago.

The congressman’s district covers Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the largest single site employer in Ohio.

“The Air Force Caucus is a bicameral and bipartisan forum for the discussion and formulation of policy which will have a direct impact on our men and women in uniform,” Turner said in a statement.

Turner was recently named chairman of the House Tactical Air and Land Forces subcommittee, which has oversight of many funding issues and policies of the Air Force and Army.

The caucus began with 19 members in 1998 and has more than 60 congressional leaders today. Many members have served in the active-duty Air Force, Air Force Reserve or the Air National Guard.
