Staff Report

DAYTON, Ohio —

A driver and his dog were injured in a single-vehicle crash on South Smithville Road and Highridge Avenue late Tuesday night.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a vehicle on its top with a man and a small dog inside.

Once firefighters removed the driver through the passenger side and put him in an ambulance, they turned their attention to the dog that was still in the car, which appeared to be hurt, according to reports.

The dog didn't appear to have been secured inside the car and was taken to an animal hospital.

According to police, the driver lost control in the left two lanes and drove over a six-inch high concrete barrier that surrounds a center island in the road. The vehicle then struck a tree and flipped, police said.
