Welding student ejected, killed in Miami Co. crash

MIAMI COUNTY, Ohio —

Deputies in Miami County said an 18-year-old man was killed when he was ejected from a vehicle early Thursday morning on Hufford Road.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Kyle Moore, of Newaygo, Mich., deputies said. Moore graduated high school in the spring and was a full-time student at the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology in Troy.

Excessive speed may be a factor in the single-vehicle crash, but the incident is still under investigation.

According to deputies, a passerby reported the crash around 6:19 a.m.. Upon arrival, deputies found a man ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crash scene investigators said it appears that the driver overcorrected and flipped several times into a field. They said the driver was ejected and was thrown about 150-160 feet.

Deputies said they believe the crash may have happened around 4:30 a.m. when several farmers who live nearby said they heard sounds. Investigators believe the sounds were related to the crash.

Deputies do not believe that alcohol played a role in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
