$1.9M bridge opens in Preble County

PREBLE COUNTY, Ohio —

Preble County officials celebrated the finishing of the county's eighth covered bridge, Hueston Woods over Four Mile Creek on Sunday afternoon.

The $1,997,500 construction of the bridge began last September by Brumbaugh Construction of Arcanum. The structure was in need of attention due to years of use and outside elements. Plans to fix the old bridge began in 2007 after the county received funding from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The new bridge is said to support a 40 ton truck and it has a life expectancy of 100 years, according to a press release.

Preble County Engineer, J. Stephen Simmons was the master of ceremonies at Sunday's celebration, which included a balloon launch, bridge parade, homemade ice cream and other festivities.

The new bridge is located on Camden College Corner Road in Israel Township, Preble County, within the western boundary of Hueston Woods State Park.
