2 teens accused of breaking into school

Staff Report

SPRINGFIELD —

Two teenagers were arrested Monday after police said they broke into Catholic Central High School.

Police responded to the school when an alarm sounded shortly after 1 a.m. One officer located a suspect in the gymnasium. He fled and was apprehended in a hallway, according to the police report.

A second officer reportedly found a second suspect running up a staircase, but lost sight of him.

Police visited the second suspect's home and spoke with his father. They had a shoe found inside the school and were able to identify a matching shoe in the home. The responding offer also recognized the suspect's face.

Officers also identified bicycles belonging to the two teens, which were found at the school hidden in bushes.

A black bag found in a hallway of the school included 11 tablet computers and laptops. The bag, officers reported, had been dropped by one of the suspects during the chases.

The suspects were taken to the juvenile detention center on charges of breaking and entering, obstructing official business and curfew violation.
