23 officers respond after shots fired on Saturday

DAYTON —

No was injured during a BB gun shooting Saturday evening near a Valero gas station in Dayton.

Just before 8 p.m., Dayton police were dispatched on the report of “suspicious circumstance” at the station, located at 527 S. Smithville Rd., according to a police report.

A half-dozen people were reportedly waving at the police cruiser to come to them as police arrived on scene. The people shouted “someone is shooting at us,” according to the report. The driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee told police someone shot a window out of his vehicle and shattered glass all over his children in the back.

They were not injured.

Witnesses told police they thought the shots were coming from a nearby window on Smithville Road. Police could see movement in the window and immediately ordered everyone to go inside the gas station for their safety.

Residents fled from the nearby apartment where the shots reportedly originated. Officers checked the rear of the residence and did not see anyone. Several more police units arrived and assisted in securing the front and rear of the address in question.

Streets in the area were blocked with cruisers and taped off to keep spectators away. After several minutes of PA announcements from the police to the house, two males exited the house and were ordered to the ground. As police searched the residence, two others along with two children were located and exited without any issues.

Officers discovered a black BB pistol along with several steel BBs. One of the suspects, 20-year-old Kendal Robinson, was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
