DAYTON —

A man wielding a BB gun was arrested Friday on a charge of aggravated menacing after he was accused of threatening a woman with the weapon at the Valero gas station at 527 S. Smithville Road.

The woman told police she knows the man, 19-year-old Jonathan Hinton. According to a police report, she said he pulled up his shirt to reveal the gun in his waistband and told her, “I’m strapped.”

The woman, who had a small child in the car with her, said she thought the gun was real and that she felt threatened. She sped off and flagged down a police officer. Officers responded to the gas station and with guns drawn ordered Hinton and another man out of their car.

According to the report, Hinton told officers, “It was only a BB gun.”

The driver of the car he was in said he got a call from Hinton, who said he needed to leave the area and wanted to be picked up. When he arrived, Hinton jumped in the back of his car and shoved the BB gun under the front seat, according to the report.

Hinton was taken to the Montgomery County Jail where he was being held on a $2,500 bond pending a misdemeanor charge of aggravated menacing. He also has two outstanding felony burglary charges from 2011.
