Blaze inside 8-story apartment high-rise put out

Staff Report

DAYTON —

Firefighters responded to a fire inside a high-rise apartment complex around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

One person was transported to the hospital and two other victims were treated at the scene, according to firefighters.

The fire reportedly started inside a fourth floor apartment building, when a person was smoking too close to an oxygen tank, firefighters said.

The blaze started at the Park Manor Apartments, 220 Park Manor Drive,  and when crews arrived on scene they observed heavy smoke inside the structure.  Emergency personnel began an evacuation of the building once the smoke was located.

The building’s sprinkler system was able to knock down the flames and the damage was contained to the apartment where the fire started, officials said.

The high-rise complex is eight stories tall and is located in the Oregon District.
