DAYTON —

A 39-year-old Brookville man pleaded guilty Monday to 15 counts involving child sex charges that could land him in prison for as many as 33 years.

Christopher Witherspoon is to be sentenced in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on Aug. 31 for his guilty pleas to 10 counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor and five counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.

Witherspoon engaged in an online chat with a person he thought was arranging for him to meet and engage in sexual activity with a 6-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl, according to Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr.'s office. Witherspoon was in fact chatting with an undercover police officer.

Based on that evidence, Brookville police searched Witherspoon's home. They found and seized at least 70 photographs of juveniles engaged in various sexual acts, according to Heck's office. Witherspoon was arrested June 4 at 710 Albert Road in Brookville as the result of that ongoing investigation with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Police said they first started to investigate Witherspoon after he posted an advertisement on Craig's List.

According to police, Witherspoon told investigators none of the children in the photos police recovered from the home on Albert Road were local children or acquaintances. It is not immediately clear whether police confirmed Witherspoon's claims.

According to Heck's office, the charges of pandering are second-degree felonies and each count carries a potential sentence of two to eight years. The charges of illegal use are fifth-degree felonies and each count carries a potential six to 12 months in prison.
