A collie that suffered serious leg injuries from what was believed to be a car crash was honored Tuesday by Montgomery County officials with the #1 Dog Tag.

The dog, which has been named “Crash,” was found Jan. 23 by Renee Parcell of Dayton on Interstate 75, according to the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center.

Crash was taken to an emergency veterinarian clinic where they found he had two broken legs. Parcell paid for the initial treatment, after which Crash was taken to the ARC facility on Webster Street.

The tag was awarded to Crash at the animal resource center facility to emphasize the importance of licensing pets, according to ARC officials.

To help with Crash’s recovery, ARC has also committed $1,000 from its “Tiny Tim Fund,” which provides veterinary care to the community’s needy pets. Repair and rehabilitation for the collie’s broken legs will cost up to $6,000, according to ARC.

Crash, who was not wearing a license or microchip, will be available for adoption if the owners are not identified.
