Bad crash on Germantown/Liberty Road in New Lebanon

JEFFERSON TWP. —

One of the three children injured in a car-truck accident in Jefferson Township on Saturday has died.

According to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, 3-year-old Varity Olivia Whiteman of Germantown was in the crash Oct. 6 on Germantown-Liberty Road.

An obit published online Tuesday said the visitation is Friday and the funeral is Saturday at the Dalton Funeral Home in Germantown.

Another child, 6, whose condition could not be ascertained Tuesday evening, was reported to be in critical condition Saturday after being flown to Children’s Medical Center of Dayton.

A third child, 10, was listed in serious condition at Children’s immediately after the accident. The parents were taken to Kettering Medical Center suffering from injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Montgomery County sheriff’s Maj. David Hale has said a preliminary investigation indicated that a woman was driving her husband and three children in a sedan north on Germantown-Liberty. As she approached the intersection of Farmersville-West Carrollton Pike, she either did not stop or stopped and then proceeded into the intersection.

The sedan was struck by a pickup truck headed east on Farmersville-West Carrollton.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Neighbors at the scene said vehicle accidents in that area are common.
