A 10-year-old girl on her bicycle suffered minor injuries when she was hit by a car on Wilmington Avenue. She was wearing her helmet, police said.

DAYTON —

The driver of a car that hit a girl on her bicycle Thursday afternoon will not be given a citation to court because the child should have yielded to traffic, police said.

Medic crews and police were dispatched to Wilmington Avenue near Patterson Road at about 5 p.m. on a report of pedestrian accident.

The 10-year-old girl, who was wearing her helmet, was conscious when medics arrived, according to police and fire radio communications. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to Dayton Children’s Medical Center, according to police.

Police at the scene told News Center 7 and whiotv.com that the driver would not be cited because the girl was in an unmanned crosswalk in the middle of the block, which meant that the pedestrian has to yield to traffic.
