DAYTON —
A man apparently caught on surveillance camera breaking into parked cars was arrested Friday night after a brief foot chase and taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
Police were dispatched to the area of South Main Street, West Washington Street and South Ludlow Street at about 7:30 p.m. on a call about a suspicious person messing around with parked cars, Dayton Sgt. Kelly Hamilton said.
A security guard notified the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center that there was a man who entered a vehicle and was rummaging through it, Hamilton said, at the Community Blood Center on South Main Street.
When police arrived, a foot chase ensued and officers caught the suspect near the Genuine Auto Parts store, at 32 Franklin St. and found that he also had what was believed to be heroin in his possession, the sergeant said. No one was hurt.
The suspect will be charged with felony drug possession, breaking into vehicles and resisting arrest, Hamilton said.
