SPRINGFIELD —

A pastor driving by a home on fire in Springfield this afternoon alerted the home owner about the blaze.

A call for firefighters to come to the home in the 1900 block of Croft Road was made shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday. Smoke could be seen coming from the structure. An older couple residing in the home were able to evacuate without injury. Two pet cats have not be account for as of yet.

In an interview with the pastor, we learned he knocked on the door to alert the residence, the female told the pastor her husband had just gone downstairs to investigate an electrical problem. The refrigerator had stopped working and the lights were flickering.

Officials have not said what caused the fire or given a damage estimate.
