DAYTON —

A woman appears to have suffered a medical emergency Thursday afternoon and crashed the SUV she was driving into a tree and then a utility pole on Brown Street.

Witness Emily Brewer, who works at a business at Brown Street and Irving Avenue, and said the woman’s vehicle was not moving very fast when it struck a tree, rolled through the intersection and came to rest against the pole at about 12:30 p.m.

The woman, who is in her 40s, was unconscious when medics arrived. Dayton police Sgt. Rhonda Williams said crews were able to revive her and take her to Miami Valley Hospital, where she was in critical condition early Thursday evening.

Police said it was fortunate that no other cars or pedestrians were in the intersection. There was minor damage to the vehicle and the pole.

The intersection was closed for about an hour and reopened around 1:30 p.m.
