Robert Scott Kindred is being sought by the Darke County Sheriff's Office. He has eluded authorities for two days and was believed to be hiding in a corn field near Versailles.

Staff Report

VERSAILLES, Ohio —

A man who was at the center of a pursuit and search Monday afternoon has stolen another vehicle overnight, authorities said.

On Monday, Darke County sheriff's deputies issued a warning to residents in the area of the pursuit and search aftering calling off the search.

Officials on Monday evening warned residents of Versailles, Darke County and northwest Miami County to lock their doors and vehicles because, they said, that's how the suspect they believe is 42-year-old Robert Scott Kindred got the last two vehicles he stole -- the vehicles were not locked and had the keys in them.

But overnight, Kindress is believed to have stolen a silver Ford Taurus.

The pursuit began in Miami County on Monday morning at about 11:19 a.m. when the Miami County Sheriff's Office notified the Darke County Sheriff's Office that a deputy was requesting assistance in stopping a stolen vehicle near Bradford.  A pursuit of this vehicle ensued and at about 11:39 a.m., the suspect entered a cornfield in the area of the 9600 block of Kelch Road, south of Versailles in Darke County.

The suspect, whom they think is Kindred, jumped from the moving vehicle.  Deputies and police from Versailles pursued the subject into a cornfield and woods.  The corn was high enough to make the search difficult along with the limited number of officers in the initial search.  A perimeter of the area was established until more officers arrived.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene and tracked Kindred to a large wooded area near Klipstine and St. Peter roads.  Law enforcement searched the area until 5:10 p.m. without locating Kindred.

The man in Monday's chase may be the same person who led authorities on a pursuit Sunday.

That chase began in the Arcanum area and ended near Furlong and Deeter roads after deputies spotted Kindred driving a car stolen. Deputies said the vehicle had been reported stolen from Versailles on Friday.

Authorities said Kindred drove the car through a bean field and into a wooded area before abandoning it.  He is believed to be a suspect in burglaries in Darke and Miami counties, deputies said.

Deputies from Darke and Miami counties, the Ohio Highway Patrol and police officers from Arcanum, Covington and West Milton searched the area for Kindred on Sunday until about 4 p.m.

Kindred is wanted on a warrant issued by the Ohio Adult Parole Authority for a parole violation.  Darke County deputies expect to meet with the county prosecutor to obtain an arrest warrant on further charges.

Kindred is white, 5-feet-8 inches tall, 160 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.  He has tattoos on his chest and arms.  Anyone with information on Kindred's location is asked to contact the Darke County Sheriff's Office (937-548-3399) or their local law enforcement agency.
