DAYTON, Ohio —
A dog is expected to survive after police said it was found shot in the mouth inside a stolen vehicle that was taken at gunpoint Sunday night.
Police responded to the 2000 block of Catalpa Drive at about 8 p.m., according to a Dayton police report. The 34-year-old victim said she was held up at gunpoint by four black males and ordered her out of her vehicle. Police arrived on scene and quickly found the car one street over, on Shelton Drive. It was near the Ravenwood Avenue intersection. The vehicle was still running, according to the report.
An 8-year-old Cocker Spaniel was found bleeding heavily inside the abandoned vehicle, according to police. The report states officers later found out the suspects shot the dog one time in the mouth. The victim was able to take her dog from the car and said told police she would seek medical care for the animal.
A man who lives in the area told police he saw the men bail from the vehicle but was unable to provide a description.
A K9 unit responded to the scene but was unsuccessful in tracking the scent of the suspects. The investigation surrounding the incident is ongoing.
