Driver gets jail time for fatal accident

DAYTON —

Porsha Gresham was sentenced Thursday in Dayton Municipal Court to 90 days in jail for vehicular manslaughter stemming from an accident on Germantown Street in October 2011.

Sixty of those days were suspended. Gresham will serve her time by going to jail three days a week for 10 weeks.

She pleaded no contest in September to the second-degree misdemeanor.

Gresham was driving Oct. 23, 2011, when Billie Jo Baker, 35, was using a gas can to fill her pickup truck. She was hit and killed by Gresham’s vehicle, which also hit David Wood, who was helping Baker. Wood was not seriously injured.

The sentencing judge also ordered Gresham to write a letter of regret and apology to the family of the victim.
