Driver killed in crash in Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, Ohio —

Deputies in Mercer County said one person was killed in an early-morning crash on the Mercer-Darke County Line Road.

The crash happened around 5:14 a.m. just west of Cochran Road.

Deputies from Darke County notified authorities in Mercer County of the crash. Upon arrival by Darke County deputies, it was determined that the crash happened in  Mercer County.

The investigation revealed that the driver of the car Lucas E. Staugler, 22 of Fort Recovery, was traveling west and went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.

The vehicle then came to a rest in a field. Staugler was pronounced dead at the scene. According to deputies, he was not wearing a seat belt.

The investigation continues.
