A five-month cocaine and heroin trafficking investigation has culminated in the arrest of one man and the seizure of small quantities of cocaine as well as two handguns and $20,000 in cash.

Thomas Wortham Jr., 35, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on Wednesday, where he is being held on drug trafficking and gun possession charges, sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Brem said.

Wortham was arrested Wednesday during a raid prompted by two search warrants served by the Montgomery County RANGE Task Force. The warrants were granted as a result of undercover detectives with the task force having bought drugs from Wortham in and around Dayton since July, Brem said.

The warrants were executed simultaneously at a residence in the 1400 block of Kumler Avenue and the 1200 block of Amherst Place at about 9 a.m.

Wortham was at the Kumler Avenue address and taken into custody. Another person the task force was interested in, and believed would be at the Amherst address, was not at the second address, Brem said.

From both addresses, task force agents seized four ounces of cocaine, four ounces of crack cocaine, two handguns and $20,000 in cash, Brem said.

Wortham was not cooperating with authorities, Brem said, noting that he could not comment on whether Wortham was a member of or affiliated with a street gang or organized drug trafficking operation.

Brem did state that the task force investigation is continuing.
