Employees escape armed robber through cooler

DAYTON —

Employees quickly escaped two armed men attempting to rob the Ruts Drive Thru located at 32 North James H. McGee Blvd. on Tuesday just after 7:45 p.m.

Dayton police were dispatched to the drive thru on a report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival the suspects were gone but officers did speak with two employees, according to a Dayton Police report.

A male employee told police that a man dressed all in black wearing a mask approached the drive thru office door holding a large gun. The other employee said she saw two individuals but was unsure if the other man had a gun.

Officers were able to view surveillance video showing two subjects attempting to enter the office, then both employees running into the cooler and out the other side into the drive thru.

The video showed the two men unsuccessfully attempting to pull open the office door due to the fact it slid sideways to open. It showed the suspects flee east without getting in the drive thru, according to the report.

Detectives are investigating the incident.
