Ex-pastor facing more child sex charges

Staff Report

XENIA —

A former Xenia pastor has been indicted in Adams County Court on 11 sex crimes against teenagers that happened in the early 1990s. Charles W. Savage II, who worked at Xenia’s Freedom Baptist Temple, faces seven counts of third-degree felony sexual battery and four counts of third-degree corruption of a minor.

Court officials said the Ohio Attorney General’s Office is handling the newest case which allegedly happened against teenagers between the ages of 13 and 16 at camping trips in Adams County between Sept. 1, 1990 and Feb. 13, 1994.

Savage was indicted in 2010 on charges of unlawful conduct with a minor and sexual battery. At the time, an elected officer of the church, Karl Schmidt, said Savage told the entire congregation that he was resigning due to “gross immorality” in 2009.
