Family of 8 burned out of Arcanum-area home

ARCANUM, Ohio —

A family of eight in Darke County is receiving help from the American Red Cross after a fire heavily damaged their rural home 24 hours near the village of Arcanum.

The family of Scott Baker, his wife and six children were burned out of their home in the 2300 block of Gordon-Landis Road on Tuesday night.

Officials said there were no injuries, but the family lost two pets.

Firefighters said they estimate damage to the house that dates back to the 1900’s at $75,000.

The Darke County Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping the family.

Fire officials said the only person in the house at the time of the fire was asleep. Authorities said there was no smoke detector in the house.
