Family out of town when fire starts

Staff Report

MIAMISBURG, Ohio —

Residents of a home on Pellston Way in Miamisburg were not home Wednesday night when their electric meter began to spark and smoke, according to Battalion Chief Jim Baber of the Miami Valley Fire Dispatch.

Baber said the smoke detectors in the home were not working when the fire department arrived, but the family was luckily out of town.

“You have to check your smoke detectors. Tonight we were lucky because no one was injured,” Baber said.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire and clear the smoke in the basement. Fire marshals are still investigating the cause of the fire.

The family has been notified.
