Family takes cover as gunfire hits residence

Staff Report

DAYTON, Ohio —

A residence on the 800 block of North Broadway Street was hit by gunfire Sunday night and victims told police it wasn't the first time an incident in that fashion had occurred.

Around 10:30 p.m., Dayton police responded to a gunshots complaint on North Broadway. While police knocked on the door of the residence to make contact with its victims, one officer noted a "two-inch circle" busted out of a window, according to a police report obtained Monday. There was also a round hole through vinyl blinds.

While in the house, the reporting officer noted that he could "clearly see" a slug in the drywall.

The victims inside the house told police that they heard two gunshots and took cover. According to the report, they said they believe the act was random. The same thing happened about a year ago, police were told.

A neighbor told police they had also heard the shots but did not see any suspects. No suspect information was provided by the victims.

Inside the residence was a woman, her pregnant daughter and her granddaughter.
