A regional strike team, federal authorities and Dayton police were looking for a fugitive who abandoned a car near an elementary school on Free Pike.

DAYTON —

A man believed to be under surveillance by the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team ran off to elude capture Thursday night and Dayton police joined the regional task force in a search.

According to initial reports, the individual under surveillance realized he was being watched and abandoned his car at the Belle Haven Pre K-8 school on Free Pike at about 9 p.m. The suspect ran through a wooded area and authorities were looking  in that area and in neighborhoods near the school.
