Fire captain injured in crash still hospitalized

Staff Report

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio —

Springfield Fire Department Captain Patrick Casey remains in serious condition in intensive care at Miami Valley Hospital. He crashed his motorcycle on Thursday, and troopers said he was not wearing a helmet when he hit a pick-up truck that had slowed down for a mail carrier.

"For better or worse, the silver lining of these events are it really sets home for us what it's like to be on the other side, said Springfield Fire Chief Nick Heimlich.  "So it helps us in our jobs and in our relationships with members of the community for whom we provide those services," Springfield Fire Chief Nick Heimlich said.

The truck driver will not face charges.
