Fire destroys Shelby Co. chicken coop

SHELBY CO., Ohio —

Firefighters from three departments were called the Ammon home near Jackson Center in Shelby Co. to battle flames at a backyard chicken coop Friday morning.

The coop holding about 100 chickens behind 18299 Botkins Road caught fire around 11 a.m. Friday. Crews said they think they saved all of the chickens but have not been able to count all the chickens. The coop was destroyed. No people were hurt by the fire.

Mutual aid companies from Botkins and Anna responded to assist the Jackson Center crews. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
