Staff Report

FAIRBORN —

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire Monday that gutted a backyard shed and caused upwards of $10,000 in damage.

Fire crews dispatched just before 3 p.m. to the 1800 block of Burrowes Boulevard on a report of a structure fire found a small building behind a residence fully involved, with flames coming through its roof, Fairborn Fire Marshal Carl Day told News Center 7.

Fire crews were able to quickly knock down the flames and save the nearby residence, Day said.

There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation, Day said, as there was no electricity to the structure.

Day estimated the damage at $5,000 to $10,000 and termed the structure a total loss as fire crews were not sure what was inside the structure.

Day said investigators have no reason to believe that Monday’s fire was connected to other fires in the area that have been determined to be suspicious, including two arsons set the evening of May 23.

One of those arsons occurred at 589 Sports St., at the former Green Acres Swim Club. The fire at the former club is a state fire marshal’s case.

The other occurred minutes earlier at 132 Circle Drive, a single-family residence that a Fairborn fire lieutenant said was vacant but appeared to have been in the process of being renovated.

The lieutenant listed the cause as suspicious and said the fire was contained to the kitchen area.
