RIVERSIDE —

A family was displaced Tuesday evening when a fire in the basement left the residence unlivable.

The fire that crews believe started around the electrical panel appears to be electrical, Riverside Battalion Chief Joseph Greil said.

Fire crews were dispatched at about 7 p.m. to the 1300 block of Obie Street on a report of a possible basement fire. Crews found smoke and fire

in the basement.

Dayton Power & Light was called in to shut power off to the house, which was deemed not livable because of the lack of power, Greil said.

The Red Cross was notified to help the family find lodging for the night.

The family was home at the time, Greil said, and the husband told firefighters that he noticed smoke in the kitchen and called 911.

Greil estimated the damage to the home at $10,000. There were no reported injuries.
