Staff Report

DAYTON —

Dayton arson investigators were called about a fire Friday afternoon in a vacant single-family house that has been listed as suspicious.

Fire crews were dispatched to 1533 Alwildy Ave. at about 3:30 p.m. on a report of possible structure fire with smoke showing.

Heavy smoke was visible when crews arrived at the boarded-up structure, Dayton District Chief Peter Whitby said.

Arson investigators were called in because evidence found at the scene suggests the fire was suspicious, Whitby said. He would not go into detail about what evidence was found by firefighters.

The fire caused heavy damage to the structure, but Whitby said he did not order it to be torn down because it caused no hazard to nearby structures.

According to the real estate website  Zillow.com, the 754-square-foot structure built in 1926 carried a listed value of $28,600.
