A recently fired employee of a glass shop has been arrested on charges accusing him of theft and forgery totaling at least $3,000.

Jeremy E. Stineback, 34, took several checks and cashed them in November and December, Dayton police said Thursday.

Gene Lamar, owner of Gene’s Mobile Glass, 1921 E. Fifth St., contacted police Wednesday on a report of theft. Lamar told police he fired Stineback on Dec. 29 because he felt Stineback had been stealing from him.

Lamar told police that he and an employee recently discovered a missing, unpaid invoice in the back of a filing cabinet that was to be paid by Stineback. Contacting a bank, Lamar said he was told that other checks were cashed bearing the signature of Gene Lamar, which Lamar said he had not signed. .

Stineback was taken into custody Wednesday evening at the Internet Cafe. According to police, he confessed while in a police cruiser to stealing the checks and cashing them. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on four counts of theft and four counts of forgery, both felonies.

A business credit card for Gene’s Mobile Glass was found in Stineback’s wallet, according to police. Lamer said Stineback was never issued a credit card for the business.
