Mother faces OVI charge in morning crash

Staff Report

FARMERSVILLE, Ohio —

Five people were sent to Miami Valley Hospital after a car crashed into a cornfield on Lower Gratis Road near Farmersville early Monday morning.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the driver, identified as 35-year-old Suzette Wertz  was driving southbound when she lost control, hit the guard rail and went off the side of the road. A 29-year-old male passenger, Shane Trent, was also in the vehicle, along with two male juveniles and the 18-year-old daughter of Wertz.

Wertz will be cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, child endangering and driving under suspension, according to reports.

All five were treated and released from the hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and investigators said they believe the car may have been speeding on the hilly road and lost control after going airborne.
