DARKE COUNTY, Ohio —

The driver of a vehicle that crashed on U.S. 127 and struck a gas line Tuesday morning suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Jesse Simpson, 24, of West Alexandria was driving north on U.S. 127 between Hogpath Road and U.S. 36 when he drove off the right side and hit the above-ground line. He was taken to Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.

The gas line was broken at the base, officials said, causing gas to release. A nearby residence was evacuated and the road closed.

Vectren Gas Company secured the line and the roadway reopened after two hours.

The crash remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office.
