A months-long drug investigation ended with the arrest of a gas station owner in Tipp City on Tuesday.

Tipp City police said an undercover investigation revealed that Naineshkumar “Nick” Patel, 28, was selling synthetic marijuana from the BP station at 1016 W. Main St.

He was in the Miami County Jail on Tuesday on a charge of drug trafficking, a third-degree felony. At his arraignment Wednesday morning in Miami County Municipal Court Patel was released on his own recognizance,

“We had reported sales of illegal drugs at the BP in the winter time,” said Tipp City Sgt. Chris Graham. “The investigation has continued from that time.”

The police department said the synthetic marijuana purchased by an undercover officer was sent to the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory where it was confirmed to be an illegal substance.

Police searched the gas station and Patel’s personal vehicle on Tuesday, but did not find any contraband.

“Frankly, we didn’t expect anything on the premises,” Graham said.

Police said they don’t expect additional arrests or charges.
