Greenville man gets 4 years in child sex case

DARKE COUNTY —

A 39-year-old man was sentenced on Monday to four years in prison after he pleaded guilty in September to a sex charge involving a child.

Before a crowded courtroom, Greenville resident Michael Gilmore apologized.

“I wish this wouldn’t have happened.” Of the two charges of gross sexual imposition he was made to answer to, Gilmore had pleaded guilty to one charge and no contest to the other.

For each charge, a Darke County judge sentenced him to four years in prison. They will be served concurrently.

Gilmore was convicted of being sexually involved with two juveniles at least four years ago. One victim was in fifth grade at the time. Both victims’ families were in court on Monday but did not speak publicly.

Upon his release from prison, Gilmore will have to register as a Tier II sex offender, meaning that every six months he’ll have to register with the sheriff of the county in which he resides. He’ll need to do so for the next 25 years.
