DAYTON —

Armed robbers hit two retail stores Wednesday night within a half-hour of each other, but police say it’s unlikely there’s any connection between the two incidents.

Just after 7:30 p.m., a lone gunman dressed in dark clothing ran toward the rear of the Dollar General, 1880 Needmore Road, grabbed money from a cash register and left on foot, Dayton police said.

No shots were fired and no one was injured, police said.

Just after 8 p.m., two gunmen dressed in all black clothing walked into the Family Dollar, 1880 N. Gettysburg Ave., and took “probably about $100” before fleeing, Sgt. Paul Saunders said.

Both of the robbers in the second incident wore hooded sweatshirts or jackets and each wore a bandanna to hide his face. One of them had what appeared to be a semiautomatic handgun, the other a revolver, Saunders said.

None of the three employees in the store was hurt, but one of them told police the robbers did not appear to be the same assailants who robbed the store within the last two weeks, Saunders said.

The employees did not see a vehicle and did not see which way the robbers went. A K-9 was dispatched, but did not pick up a scent, the sergeant said.
